The purpose of this Ministry is to provide those who live in long term care, or a retirement setting with an experience of the care and concern of their faith community and also, to provide an opportunity to pray with others and to receive the Eucharist. It is a way to keep our family members and friends, often the elderly, connected with their faith community. At St. Michael Parish this Ministry is comprised of a group of trained lay men and women who not only meet the requirements of the Parish, but also of the specific home/facility that they serve. The homes/facilities that we visit on a regular basis within our Parish boundaries include:
Long Term Care Homes (LTC) - The Village at University Gates, Columbia Forest
Retirement Homes - The Village at University Gates, Clair Hills,
The Court at Laurelwood
On a weekly basis our Ministry visits each home to share:
- Week day and/or Sunday morning distribution of the Eucharist either individually or while gathered together in prayer
- Praying the Rosary - in the Chapel or other room at the home/facility
We are also present on Holy days throughout the year (ie. Ash Wednesday).
On a regular basis Father visits each home/facility to:
- Celebrate Mass monthly
- Administer the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick twice a year and as requested by the individual or family.
Our 5 LTC/Retirement Homes have schedules available that outline the dates/times of when we will be present. This information is also available by contacting our St.Michael Parish office for the schedule.
If you or a loved one currently reside at or will be entering a long term care or retirement home it is important to inform our Parish office and also inform the home/facility of your Catholic faith and desire to participate.
We also have parishioners who are at home and cannot attend Mass. If this is the case, please contact the Parish office. We will provide options and make arrangements to ensure that you or your loved one can stay connected with their faith and faith community.
