Founded by Sister Fay Trombley of Tuktoyaktuk, Eileen Orysiuk of Calgary and other members of the Saint Vincent de Paul in 2005 the project now extends across Canada from coast to coast providing financial and material supports to some of Canada's most remote communities above the 60th parallel.
Kitchener Waterloo Society of Saint Vincent de Paul joins together every year to raise funds, collect foods and other goods to send a 20 foot sea container north to Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut. This northern hamlet of less than 500 people, like other Inuit communities, was once one of the Hudson's Bay Company's main supply centers and has a long divided history with the Royal Mounted Police and the Catholic Church. The focus of the North of 60 project is to establish hope, supply some necessities of life, and regain trust by walking with the Inuit peoples.
In Chesterfield Inlet, Sr. Dorica shares a food cupboard with all community families, a prayer group for young moms, the daily after school program for children, and she holds all ceremonies held at the church.
